This past week Braelyn attended her 2nd basketball camp of the summer, this one hosted by the Orlando Magic at the RDV Sportsplex in Maitland. While this was originally the only basketball camp we had planned on attending this summer, the other one she did last month at Legacy High School helped her be more prepared for this one. And boy did it ever, as this camp had 130 kids attending, ranging from ages 8-18! A huge difference than the small one comprised of only 12 girls from 4-6 grade. There were also a lot of foreign kids attending the Magic camp, busloads of them from China, France, and Brazil. I can only imagine what their parents had to pay to get them over here for a basketball camp.
She was a little intimidated at the number of people attending camp, and the first couple of days you could tell she wasn't as overly engaged and confident with her skills, although she did have several friends and classmates from OJA attend the camp; there were 8 of us representing the school. And we saw friends from church there as well, including the Z boys and Luke Deininger. But then she continued to practice and dribble and shoot and learn more skills and strategies, and it was a great big surprise when they called her name at the awards ceremony on the last day of camp. She had won Most Improved Player! Out of 130 kids! Impressive!!
Way to go Brae! Now let's use those skills and get some wins this next season!!
