4 Months!

Tangie’s turn

4 months today
Kohlden 13 lbs 14 oz
Madelyn 12 lbs 7 oz

Well, it’s official. We survived the first 4 months with twins + a 3 year old. Much has changed. It’s still tiring and exhausting, but with them being able to correspond better, it has made it more enjoyable. They liked me singing happy birthday to them.

They are sleeping better at night (putting them down at 7p, feeding them when we go to bed, then again at 5 am-ish), so I’m not calling noon my wake up time anymore due to an all night nursing fest. Its actually 5:30a now as by the time I’m done feeding them, we’re getting Braelyn ready for school so she can go out the door by 7 am with Daddy, then Kohlden wakes up again like clockwork at 7:30a. If I get Maddy back to sleep after the 5:30 feeding and is not disturbed, she’ll sleep until 9:30a (about the time Kohlden’s ready to go back for a nap).

Madelyn rolled over for me today. She’s the one we can’t leave still before she gets in trouble. She is a magician and gets out of her night swaddle so easy that we are leaving one arm out now. With one out, it doesn’t affect the passy too much. Kohlden on the other hand does not really roll off his back. I’m sure because he is much heavier in the middle. He wants to get his hands out of the swaddle but if he does, the passy would not stay in, which would definitely prevent him from going to sleep. They’ve now stayed in one crib for a week and a half now with a divider and sound machine in the middle.

I also got them to talk to each other today, very briefly. They stare at each other a lot, but usually if Kohlden catches her eye, he’ll look away. It’s like he doesn’t want anything to do with the other one who is stealing attention from mommy and daddy. This morning they were both smiling at me and then I turned them to each other. A couple smiles lit up. I hope we can continue to work on this so they can soon entertain each other. I haven’t really noticed many twin instincts yet – except one will sympathy cry if the other is doing so.

They’ve been enjoying the activity centers, the bebe pod and bumbo seat (thanks for lending Corey!) and also, when we are desperate and just need a few minutes to do dishes or something, they love watching the Little Einstein videos. They are learning Bach, Mozart, and Shakespeare!

It’s been fun to listen to what Brae is coming up with to say and do. A couple this week - Out of the blue in the car, declared she was the “Starchild of the Week”. We asked her how she became this and we never got a clear answer. Not sure where she came up with it, as if it were true, wouldn’t they tell the parents or something? She’s also declared that she is feeding Marge (her stuffed toy jaguar) milk from her boobies. Also, tonight at dinner she said the prayer… “Dear Jesus, thank you for our food. I’m sorry if I made you sad. We love you Jesus. With liberty and justice for all. Amen.” Well…she’s learning something at least. As I make room in her closet for her new school clothes, she tried on her pants that were hanging. It’s a good thing we did. Since she hasn’t worn them all summer, she has outgrown all 8 pairs! They look like highwaters, but not short enough to keep to look like crops. Glad we got size 4s for the new ones as all of the 3s are too short! She was so excited to see that she had grown, she ran down the hall into our bedroom and back, yelling “woohoo! I’m grown up now!”

Lolo and Lala came up Friday evening and spent Sabbath with us. The kids had fun at sabbath school. We enjoy the afternoon naps they give us. Also, Lala slept in the babies’ room on Saturday night so we could have a night off. Fantastic.

Saturday evening, we had a fun time at the Mahavirs down the street. Great food that gave us leftovers for a few days, and a game of Hot Seat. The grandparents took the twins home early so we could stay and play.

On Sunday, Allen had to work, so they stayed until the afternoon with me so I wouldn’t have to have all 3 kids all day long. Late evening, they were getting a little restless, so we went to do some errands – get gas, return movies, drive through, etc. and I was brave enough to stop at a park for Brae to play for about 10 minutes. Found one that was totally shaded by trees and got the long stroller out. She enjoyed it as it’s been really too hot to play outside.

Monday was Allen’s day off and he helped with the twins then took Brae to her swimming stroke class. Here’s some video from this week. She is getting really good.

Tuesday and Wednesday, Allen worked late, so I picked up Braelyn from school with the twins in tow. I’ve been taking them in the Maya wrap and keep getting smiles. They don’t mind it for 10 minutes; but with the upper 90 degrees we’ve been having, they can’t handle any longer. Love the T&C Van with the stow n go seats so I have room to maneuver them. We had swim class on Wednesday. The twins are usually sweating by the time we get home from being in their car seats in the hot and humid weather. They’ve done great for me so far while we’ve been out this week, that I became brave and ventured out to Babies R Us today with them. First time I’ve been shopping by myself with the two of them. Success.

We are FINALLY starting to get into a routine. Hope you all have a good weekend!

  1. You must be SO glad they're sleeping better at night. The world just seems like a happier place once you're getting decent sleep. As far as Braelyn's swimming, I'm guessing you would say it's money well spent? We may have to go that route next year.

  2. Unbelievable!!!! Everything is just amazing! I just read the blog, and I laughed and laughed at these incredible kiddos - they were so responsive and happy on the videos, I just can't believe how much they've grown! "With liberty and justice for all. Amen." That was CLASSIC!! My niece is such a character...I can't wait to see them all and get Braelyn in the pool so we can swim together! I miss you all - Tangie and Kuya Allen, please keep these awesome blogs coming! The pictures and videos are fantastic!

    Love you all!
