Great Scott!

4 Years, 21 Weeks.

We had brunch with Florida's Governor, Rick Scott, this past Sunday morning.

Not really, but we did get a chance to meet and take some pictures with him.

Telling the Governor how old they are.

The youngest members of the Scott campaign.

He was en route to some rally as he is campaigning for a second term, and decided to stop and have breakfast at First Watch in Winter Garden Village. And, as coincidence would have it, we also decided to go have brunch there with the Grodacks and the Reeves family, who were in town that weekend from Calhoun, Georgia.

We saw his bus parked outside the restaurant, and watched him meet and shake hands with several other people eating while we waited for our table.  Tangie told  Braelyn to draw a picture for Mr. Scott, and I used that as an excuse to tell his aide that the kids wanted to meet the governor, which we did.  He was very gracious and friendly, and shook every kid's hand when he met them.  His personal photographer was there to take some great pictures of him with all the kids, and even took some for us on our phones.  It was such a nice treat and surprise, and opportunity to rub elbows with a politician!

Lolo and Lala in front of the Governor's bus!

As this has been an incredibly busy past 2 weeks, from Labor Day on to today, I'm just going to post quite a few pictures and use the captions to summarize the events.

Big sister picks them up from school on Friday.

Checking out a new entertainment center at Best Buy.

It was a long week.  He fell asleep on the floor.

While his sisters crashed on the sofa!

Drinking his water!

Rendition of the Statue of Liberty via ice cream cone.

Trying some new headgear at Bass Pro Shop.

They really wanted to get this boat!

There's a moose on the loose!

Pretty fun tent for kids.

Met up with the Bergherms for the annual Labor Day pool fun.

The group after lunch.

Afternoon storms chased a lot of people away, so the pools weren't too crowded!

Floating down the lazy river in the rain.

Labor Day fun at the beach!

We went with the Grodacks and the kids had a lot of fun playing in the sand.

Brady and Brae give thumbs up as the Norwegian Dawn comes into port.

The twins enjoying each other's company (at least for the picture!)

The boys about to hit some waves!

The moms relax and catch up under the canopy.

"I don't drink milk, but when I do, I drink it frothed."  says the coolest kid ever.

Heading to Avon Park to attend the memorial service of my childhood principal.

They made a nice memorial for Mr. Farmer at the school.

With family friend Roger and former teachers the Roches.

It was a packed church.  They were standing in the back and had to stream the
service live in the chapel because of overflow.  He touched and impacted so many lives!

Heading to school early in the morning.

The twins working on their computer skills at the library.

Met up with the Alvarenga twins at Lake Eola Park while Daddy did some work with their parents.

Getting her last 2 cavities filled.

Going shopping with Lala.

Picking Brae up from gymnastics.  Unitards hadn't arrived yet.

Just lying around while waiting for Brae to finish.

Had the Reeves and Grodacks over for Sabbath lunch.

Amazing how big our clans have grown!

The kids playing games with the grandparents while

Mommy and Daddy went out for date night

with the Jamerson's at Todd English's Bluezoo!

Early morning ride with Cory and Duncan around Lake Apopka on Sunday.

I don't quite know what they were doing here...

Still smiling, 50 miles later!

Our table at First Watch after meeting the Governor.  Maddy took this picture.

Parting ways and saying goodbye to good friends.  Come back soon!

Picked Brae up from OJA as Lolo and Lala attended the Grandparents Day event with her.
Giving hugs as we parted ways with them as well.  Thanks for helping us over the weekend!

A tale of two knights!

Final hurrah with the Reeves, joined them and the Grodacks for supper at Positano Tuesday evening.

The girls enjoyed their Italian cuisine!

Picking them up from school Wednesday afternoon.  It's an exciting time of the day.

Met up with Mommy's office for their meeting on I-Drive, at the WhirlyDome attraction.

The kids enjoyed playing games in the arcade.

Food:

Sirloin stuffed purple bell peppers.

My appetizer at Bluezoo:  Pea ganache with pickled radish and kimchi!

Glorious light through the clouds.

Came across this picture of my sophomore year in high school, posted by an old classmate who had
just recently friended me on Facebook.  Sorry about the nudity...

A little too much sunscreen before my ride Sunday morning.

The kids wanted to see how many flip flops we owned at home.

1 down, 15 to go!  Football season is here, oh happy day!

Saw this subtle message...

Climbing like a true Filipino...

Brae made it on her teacher's Facebook page!

Quotes:

  • We were watching a video of a guy snorkeling on YouTube, the picture showing a sunken helicopter on the bottom of the reef:
Braelyn:  "Look, it's got allergy on it!"

I think the word you're looking for is algae.  Just sayin'.

  • Maddy and Kohl were playing downstairs when Maddy had to go get something upstairs.  They kept communicating but couldn't quite hear each other:
          Kohl:  [asked her something]
          Maddy:  "I can't hear you!"
          Kohl:  "Ok, I'll text you!"

  • The twins were discussing playing Mexican Dominoes with Lolo and Lala when they came up over the weekend:
Kohl:  "I have an idea.  We can play boys against the girls."
Maddy:  "But there are three girls."
          Kohl:  "That's okay."
Maddy:  "But Mommy's on a diet!"

          Okay…?

  • Driving to school one morning, Braelyn spotted a heavily wooded vacant lot with a sale sign on it:
Brae:  "This forest is for sale??"
Mommy:  "You want to buy it?"
Brae:  "We could make a cool tree fort in there, but…there would
                      be snakes!"

Or bears!

Have a great weekend!

We Are Farmers

4 Years, 20 Weeks.

My childhood principal passed away this past week.

I hadn't seen him much, if at all, over the past 20 years, considering that I had seen him almost everyday from 5th grade through my sophomore year in high school.  Nevertheless, when I found out early Friday morning of his passing, I was deeply saddened and overcome with emotion.

It was devastating news.

It wasn't because Mr. Farmer was the principal of Walker Memorial Academy; that was just his official title.  It was because he did so much more than the required job description that accompanied his office.

In all my life, even up until now, I could never imagine a Walker Memorial Academy without Mr. Farmer.  He was an ever constant presence in every facet of his school.  He was involved in everything, not to micromanage things, but because he wanted to be there.  He loved his kids, and we loved him.

I was in the same class as his son, so I became close to Mr. Farmer because I hung out and played sports with him and David.  He was my 8th grade class sponsor, and I remember he and I trying to plan out fundraisers and coordinating a fun class trip that would fit our disconcerting budget.  He taught my first American History class in high school, and gave me a new appreciation for our young country, with all the sacrifices and tribulations we had to endure to make our nation what we are today.   He was my basketball coach when I finally made it on the varsity team in 9th grade, and I could never figure out how he consistently made those 15 footers at practice.

There was this one April Fool's Day that a classmate and I decided to play a prank on our math teacher, Mr. Roche, by placing a whoopee cushion on his chair in hopes that he wouldn't see it before he sat down.  He did catch it though, and proceeded to take both of us to Mr. Farmer's office.   We were made to wait outside while they "discussed" proper discipline; I was sweating bullets fearing what my father would do with me when he was told of my inappropriate conduct. We were told to come in; the panicked look on our faces was enough to scare the angel of death away.  And then...Mr. Roche and Mr. Farmer both burst out laughing. They had turned the prank back on us, and used the suspense in the thought of getting into trouble, be our punishment.   Payback was swift and just.  He was such a class act.

Mr. Farmer will always be more than just a principal to me.  He was a leader that loved to serve others.  He was a teacher that loved to learn from his students.  He loved music and supported the music program, even though he wasn't musically inclined.  He loved sports and developed my love and understanding of football and basketball.  He taught intramurals and was a referee at all of our games.  He was always encouraging us, and showed the love of Christ through his actions and words.   He epitomized his last name perfectly:  sowing seeds of love in his students, so that his harvest would be rich and full of that same love.

He was selfless beyond measure.

He was kind.  He was fair.  He listened.  He was a friend.  He gave us his time.  He made us feel important, and made us a part of his extended family.   In essence, we are all Farmers.

Good night sir.  We will see you soon.
