Witness To History

6 Years, 26 Weeks.


108 Years.

It's been over a century since the Chicago Cubs have won the World Series, 71 since they even made an appearance in one.  Undoubtedly the longest championship drought in US history, generations of Cubs fans lived and died at the legend of the Billy Goat Curse.

And then...something we never thought would ever happen.

Ever.

The Cubs came back from a 3-1 deficit to win three straight games, including the winner-take-all Game 7 in Cleveland, to finally break the curse and win the pennant!  108 years of wishing and waiting culminated to what was probably one of the best games I had ever seen.  It was full of drama, suspense, comebacks and perseverance, being tied all the way into extra innings.  I was a nervous wreck the entire game, as I'm sure all of Cubs nation was, lying prostrate on the floor watching the drama unfold.  But the anxiety turned to relief and then joy at the end!

Like I said, I don't follow baseball much, if only during the playoffs.  But I can fully appreciate why we call this sport  "America's pastime."


Here was our week:

Enjoying the beautiful weather in downtown Winter Garden.

Midweek treat to Jojo's for some froyo!

Monday was Halloween.  Rapunzel, basketball player, and Captain America.

But first, dinner with the Ottatis and Mahavirs in their home.

Had to replace a faulty fuel injector, plus a couple of balding tires.
At over 150K miles, the van is clearly showing its age!

When sister's ticking becomes a little too much.  Time to cut Maddy's fingernails.
