Mouth Of The Rat

6 Years, 4 Weeks.

This past weekend we enjoyed Memorial Day and took the kids down to Boca Raton for a few days, to spend some time away at a different location.  We had found a great deal on a hotel on Hotwire so we booked 3 nights with them.  It was nice being in another part of the state.  Change of scenery is always fun, and this scenery did not disappoint.  South Florida, especially right along the beach route of A1A, is very affluent, the homes and properties there oozing with excess.  We enjoyed oohing and ahhing at all the massive houses, some that came with yachts, commenting on their different styles and admiring their elegant and well manicured landscaping.  Tangie used a real estate app on her phone to price each one as we drove by.  All I can say is, ka-ching!

We enjoyed the beach and hotel swimming pool everyday, along with everyone else that decided to go there for the holiday weekend.  Finding parking for the beach was a nightmare due to the high traffic volume but what would you expect on that particular weekend?  Although I'm sure it's pretty much the same every weekend down there, the area is pretty populated.  Anyway, like I said, it was just nice and refreshing to take in the sights, eat at some fun restaurants, and just enjoy our time away.

Here are the pictures:

Arriving at the hotel, figuring out who was sleeping where.
We found a steal of a deal at the Marriott at Boca Center.

A late lunch at Rocco's Tacos included fresh guacamole made table side.

We opted to spend most of the afternoon in the pool and hot tub.

Wiped out, so tired they didn't even realize they were snuggled together.

Chaos in their sleep.

Saturday morning we hit the Science Museum, free for reciprocal members with our OSC passes.

Kohlden swimming with the fishes!  They had a pretty impressive aquarium.

They had a nice learning session.

The kids feeling a spiny starfish.

She wanted a picture with Mr. Astronaut.

He enjoyed playing in the water feature.

Lunch at the waterfront.

Kohlden feeds the catfish.

Avast mateys!

Kohlden found some really fresh fish!

Some charter fishermen had a decent catch!

Hit up Deerfield beach in the afternoon.

Brae excited to use her new boogie board.

Mommy relaxing in the sand and enjoying the sun.

Maddy having fun digging in the sand.

Night back at the hotel for pizza and the basketball game!

Sunday morning back on the beach, this time a little north to Palm Beach.

The sun was intense and the sand scorchingly hot, so glad we brought our canopy.

But the water was the perfect temperature!

It seemed pretty crowded, but who wouldn't want to be on the beach on such a gorgeous day?

Mommy and Kohl building a castle.

Excavating a line for the water to flow in.

What a fantastic day at the beach!

Suppertime, we found an eclectic restaurant in Hollywood.  Named Lé Tub, it featured
footed bathtubs and decorated toilets all over the restaurant.

We had a tree growing in the middle of our table!  The restaurant service was very slow though, as the
kitchen was tiny and it was a Saturday night on a  holiday weekend.  We arrived at the restaurant at 8:45,
ordered at 9, and received our food at 10:30!  Fortunately there was a friendly lady and her daughter who
we chatted with for quite a long time and that seemed to help pass some of the time away.
The food was goodand we found out later that the place was voted "best hamburger" by Oprah!

Just a fun restaurant all around.

They enjoyed lounging around in the bathtubs!

Hitting up the pool one last time Monday morning before checking out.

Lunch at Lemongrass in Delray Beach.

The girls wanted sushi and their smiles "reflected" their satisfaction!

A little dessert to top off our trip.

Picked up a guy with antennas!

Transfixed with entertainment on the ride home.

Here was the rest of our week:

Thursday night before the trip, everyone was wiped out!

Tux thought he was coming too.  He had a nice 4 day stay at the animal hospital.

Enjoying some homemade Belgian waffles!

6 year check up for the twins.  Everything good to report.  Kohl was just under avg for height,
and just a little over avg in weight.  He is 9 lbs heavier than Maddy.

Dr. Gordon checking Maddy's vitals.  She is 50th percentile in height, 26th percentile in weight!

Wednesday visited Clermont and the splash pad on Lake Minneola.

Kohlden was the only one that wanted to do the splash pad though.

Braelyn practicing her hoops.

Met up with the Grodacks at the pool later that afternoon.

Randoms:

This guy was riding his bike and working on his tablet/laptop!

A truckload of bread parked outside under the heat of the sun is probably not a good idea.

Loved the architecture of South Florida, including this chandelier resembling a palm tree.

Great to have a bowl of these...

become a bowl of this!

Rotten?  Think again!  Golden Nugget Oranges.

Loved the big houses there.  This one is 29,000 sq ft., 22 bedrooms and 37 bathrooms.
Only $41 Million.

We're moving in!!

All in all, it was a short but fun trip.  There's more to Florida than Disney, and we're determined to do some more exploring of our state.

Have a great weekend!
