Basket Case

5 Years, 36 Weeks.

Braelyn had her first intramural basketball game against another school this week, against Orlando Christian Prep School on the other side of town.

Let's just say we got schooled by them.

Watching the game before hers.  Getting amp'd.

Finally on the court, heading to their side to stretch and warm ups.

She's wide open!!

Taking a breather on the bench.

It was painful to watch, as any parent doesn't want to see their child lose.  But the other team was head and shoulders above and better than we were.  They hustled and attacked the basketball; their defense swarming.  Our players froze, partly because they were intimidated at how aggressive these other kids were playing, partly because they had never played against anyone other than their classmates.  We played too nice, it seemed, and why not?  We were a Christian school, after all.  But then, so were they.  But with a real, paid coach that trained them, and trained them well.

Subbing in.  The coach with hands on hips feeling helpless.

Final score.  Ouch!

I had to keep reminding myself that they were only just learning how to play the game.  That they were just 3rd and 4th graders and not NBA professionals.  That I can still show team spirit by not being the loudest parent on the bleachers.  That it's not all about winning or losing, but how you play the game.

I guess…

She was a great sport, all smiles afterwards.

Hoping our team can show some improvement for next time!

Here was our week:

Snacks and homework.

Kohlden's turn.

Helping fill up a decorative cork holder Daddy got from Mommy for Christmas.

Sometimes life gives you a lot of balls.

Excited to go to the Science Center.

Chilling out in a cardboard box.

Bumped into Alice Rivas at Costco.  The mother of a good high school classmate, she became
like a second mom to me.  I hadn't seen her in over 7 years!

How bored kids shop.

Hamming up with friends after Sabbath School.

Sometimes I think he might be a little dyslexic.  Working on correcting his 3's and 5's.

More homework on Daddy's laptop.

Cha cha train with Mommy before she flew out to Pensacola on Sunday afternoon.
A plane weight issue caused her to have to take a connecting flight to Miami, landing in
Pensacola just after midnight.  Her original flight was at 2:20 PM.  Sucks.

Getting ready to head out for her game.

I brought the twins' tablets, just in case.

Kohl having a video conference…with himself.

Group selfie at halftime.

At least they were still happy after the loss!

The girls eager to dive in to dinner.

More homework.  Trying to catch up from missing a few days last week from our trip.

And still more homework.  Which meant that I too was doing homework.
*sigh*   We did homework for 3 hours on Tuesday night.

Continuing with the homework trend...

Are you done with your homework?

Running laps during basketball warmups.

The twins watching from the bleachers.

Missy after her shower.

We've had a couple of chilly days this week!

Another good day at school.

Doing homework at Barnes & Noble.

The twins enjoyed looking at all the toys.

The girls studying.

Supper at Noodles & Company, yum!

Braelyn changing in the van for her 2nd game this week.

With friend, classmate, and opponent Alyssa.  It was Blue vs. Whites.

Wrong type of footwear Missy!

She's got some hops!

Happy.  A little better this time, her team won 19-12.

Proof that we saw Mommy this week!  She swung by to see some of Brae's game.

Randoms:

Playoffs are here!  The best screen grab from the Seahawks/Vikings game.  We play Pittsburgh on Sunday!

Braelyn saw these two guys working the corner on Colonial.
She said, "Are these guys homeless?  Why do they have phones?"

Lovely Indonesian Peanut Sauté dish!

Seriously bro, what are you on?

This man had a very small kids sized helmet, much too small for his head hair!

Quotes:

  • Conversation over dinner:
Maddy:  "Daddy, is mermaids are real?"
Me:  "Do you believe they are real?"
          Maddy:  "Yes."
          Me:  "Then they are."
Kohl:  [pipes up]  "Daddy, ask Siri.  She's smarter than you."

          Thanks.

  • Reading the twins' bedtime story about David & Goliath, on a part specifically about Goliath:
Me:  "…and he came from the land of the Philistines."
Kohl:  "What?!  He was from the Philippines?!?"

Have a great weekend!
