30 Days of Thankfulness

3 Years, 29 Weeks.


Tangie decided to implement the "30 Days of Thankfulness" project this month, so that our family can remember and be grateful for the blessings that we have in life.  It especially gives the children a chance to understand what being thankful is all about, and to have an opportunity to voice that gratitude.  It's been a wonderful bonding activity, something we should implement every November, if not every month and every day.

Here was our week:

• Sabbath we attended Sabbath School.  It was a drizzly, overcast day, sometimes raining heavily enough to need the umbrellas.  Afterwards we had an impromptu invite to have lunch at the Jamerson's home, along with the Meidinger family.  So we all swung by to get some takeout (Indian!) and then spent a great afternoon of fellowship with our friends.  Later in the afternoon Tangie baked some more pumpkin cookies for the week.  Braelyn all of a sudden came down with a stomach bug that evening, prompting her to spend a lot of time upchucking all the food she had eaten that day.  She just couldn't keep anything down, poor thing.  And she was so hungry too!  It would last up until Sunday afternoon, and even though she was able to start eating some bland foods, she still complained of a tummy ache, so we opted to keep her from school on Monday.

• Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day, a complete 180º from the day previous, too beautiful of a day not to spend outside.  Tangie took the kids to run some errands and gave me the day off, which I did ~ you just can't pass up an offer to play a round of golf when the weather was just amazing.  That and I was invited to play in a tournament coming up in a couple of weeks so I needed to get out and relearn how to swing a golf club, it had been quite some time since!  The Broncos had a bye week so there was no game to see, although we were keeping a close eye on the news regarding our head coach John Fox, who had been taken to a hospital in because he was feeling lightheaded while playing golf in North Carolina.  After some tests they ended up doing heart surgery the following day and replaced an aortic valve, so he'll be sidelined for several weeks while he recovers.  Scary news, but glad everything turned out ok!

• The rest of the week:  Tangie was in Pensacola Tuesday through Thursday evening, so a very busy schedule for the crew while she was gone, making two trips out to school to take and pick up big sister.

          Kohl:  [turns to Madelyn]  "Can you go upstairs and get Braelyn's iPod from her

                     room so I can play with it?"

          Seriously dude?

• Sabbath morning the kids were watching a Bible movie while we were getting ready for church. The story was about Jacob and his sons, and they had just finished the part where Rachel had given birth to Benjamin and died while doing so:

          Brae:  [gasp]  "She died!?"

          Me:  "Yeah.  She was pretty old."

          Kohl:  "How did the baby get out?"

          Me:  "What?"

          Kohl:  "How did the baby get out of her tummy?"

          Brae:  "But...how did the baby get in her tummy?"

          Me:  [panic]  "Well, would you look at the time!  Daddy has to go upstairs and 

                                take a shower!"

          Oh dear!

• After baths Monday evening I was toweling Kohlden dry, and noticed that his member was standing at attention:

          Me:  "Whoa, Buddy.  Why did you get big all of a sudden?"

          Kohl:  "Because, I'm growing bigger!"

          Um, that's not what I meant...
