Monday Night Comeback

2 Years, 26 Weeks.

I had never experienced a plethora of emotions as I had this past Monday night: Frustration, anger, disgust, acceptance, hope, excitement, joy, ecstasy, and euphoria. All this taking place over a period of just 4 hours.

You see, the Broncos were playing on Monday Night Football.

It was a terrible start.  Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers!  It's what's been killing us all season.  Still, I had faith;  Manning is our quarterback, after all.  And the Broncos have always made huge comebacks in the 2nd half, leading the NFL with points 79 - 6 vs. opponents in the 4th quarter alone.  But the score of 24 - 0 with the San Diego Chargers leading at halftime did nothing but fuel my anguish.

I don't know what was said in the locker room, but it worked.  It was a different team that came out to play the next 30 minutes of the football game.  Both offense and defense clicked and made plays, adding points to the scoreboard.  Manning orchestrated three beautiful scoring drives and the defense finally stepped up with two fumbles and four interceptions, finishing the 2nd half with 35 points to the Chargers 0.  Final score: 35 - 24, Broncos win!  It was the largest deficit comeback win in Monday Night Football history.

And I was witness to it all.

This will be a short post; it's been quite the week.  Round 2 of Tangie's mini busy season, she worked over the weekend and has been averaging coming home past midnight every night this week, which meant flying solo with the kids and a lot of lonely evenings.  But at least she's been able to get most of what her team needs to finish by Friday's filing deadline.

Riding the hayride at Magnolia Park with the Bergs, Grodacks, and Gregorys.

Hoping no one will recognize them.

Sabbath whites, or the closest to white...

Maddy takes an afternoon bike ride.

Dads' movie night out:  Argo.

Dads' day out to Sea World on Sunday.  3 dads vs. 8 kids.  Exhausting!

Taking turns, Duncan is the chaperone on this ride.

It looks like I adopted a kid from Norway...

Kohl being brave and climbing the ropes course all by himself!

With one of the many fun characters at Sea World's Kid Spooktacular.  Trick or treating has officially begun!

A quick dip at the Grodack's pool...

And then we had dinner with them.

The twins joined the Grodack sisters at story time at the library.

This last few weeks have also become a period of frustration for me, namely on the part of the kids being clumsy, getting into accidents, and hurting themselves.  It's like never ending!  There's always someone falling, running into something, pushing and shoving, playing with doors and getting their fingers pinched, not looking at where they're walking, goofing and jumping around only to trip and skin their knees, etc etc.  I'm tired of the crying and constant hurt; I hope this period of accidents doesn't last for too long, I'm so over it.

Okay, I just reread what I had written and it kinda sounds a little whiny and negative.  But...tonight I'm going to use this blog as a much needed outlet.

It's very therapeutic.

Injury of the week:

Kohl slipped at the edge of the pool and got this nice scrape on his chin.

OJA's Spirit Week:

Monday was Wacky Hair Day.

Tuesday was Mix 'n Match Day.

Wednesday was Pajama Day.

Thursday was Teach the Teacher Day; she just wore her regular uniform.
She taught the kids how to say "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."

Friday was Hero Day.  To be specific, a real character or person.
She chose to be Noah...I don't know why...and neither does she!

Dishes prepared this week:

Butternut Squash Ravioli with Roasted Pumpkin and Sage.

Couscous bugs with crispy green bean fries...err...legs and antennas.

Sautéed Flounder filet with Quinoa on Puréed Asparagus.

  • I can see Braelyn's mind just working as she makes observations and then asks questions to make sure she understands everything that's happening.  Recently on our drives around town she been spotting people smoking, either outside of buildings or at bus stations, what have you.  We've always told her that smoking is bad for you, that it's not healthy, that people smoking aren't taking care of their bodies, etc. etc., and she'll always point that out whenever she sees any "smokers", sometimes even within earshot.  This one observation was particularly funny:
Brae:  "Daddy, does it hurt when smokers smoke?"
Me:  "Yes it does.  The smoke goes into their lungs and makes it hard to breathe.
Remember what you learned when there's a fire, you drop to the ground
                   and don't breathe the smoke?"
Brae:  "Yes.  What does the smoke do to their lungs?"
Me:  "It makes them dirty.  Like the chimney in the cabin ~ remember how the
smoke made the chimney hot and dirty?"
Brae:  "Yeah...so...how does Santa do it?"
Me:  "I don't know.  You're gonna have to ask him at Christmas..."

That's a good question.  How does Santa do it?

Got grapes?

Have a great weekend!

  1. Aww, Allen! I feel your pain! I do remember those kinds of days when I was your age! Nevertheless take heart, my dear. This is so temporary! One day you'll be like me, reading Brae's blog about her own kids and you'll smile! Have a Happy Sabbath and we'll see you in the evening. Mom
