Down But Not Out

6 Years, 19 Weeks.

This was a most horrible week.

I caught the bug Braelyn had last week and it hit me hard Saturday night.  I mean HARD.  Like, with body aches and feverish sweats, but with uncontrollable shivering it was so cold.  A dose of NyQuil helped ease the night but I fought the tiredness, body aches, and sore throat/coughing throughout the week.  I finally convinced myself that I needed more help than our essential oils and over the counter meds and made an appointment with my doctor, who immediately prescribed me 4 different medicines for infection, allergies, cough, and sinus relief.  No co-pay for the visit and only $12 total for the meds.

Awesome.

So now, I'm on the mend.  And just in time too.

Here was our short week:

Had the Cochrans and Johnsons over for potluck lunch Sabbath after church.
William and Kelli checking their dishes to make sure they're ready.

We hadn't had them over in a long while so it was nice to catch up.

The kids filled their table.

And the adults were able to enjoy uninterrupted conversation!

Braelyn and Mommy made pumpkin soup Saturday night.

Working on organizing their Legos into different colors Sunday morning.

Utilizing the Dewey Decimal System to organize the home library books.

Got a haircut on Tuesday, um...

Wednesday on my way to the doctor, swung by Walmart because the car had a hard time starting up at home.  Sure enough, it died in the parking lot and wouldn't even turn, so a new battery it was!  Fortunate to have made it there and even parked right next to the auto center just in case!  They removed the old and installed the new for me too!

Just monkeying around after school.

Darth Vader goes Western.

Mommy helping the twins with some math review.

Visiting with a new pig at the farm.

Seriously Floriday, I'm done with this ridiculous nonsense.

Angry storm clouds with eerie fingers.

DEA drug bust in our neighborhood this week,  nice!

  • Going over the twins' memory verse on our way home one day;  it was John 3:16.  I asked them if they knew what that memory verse was about, and so I started to talk to them about how God loved us so much that He had to send His Son to die for us, and that is why we celebrate Easter.   Then Kohlden inquired, "So then, why a bunny?"
Exactly!  What's the point of the bunny??

Reading and retaining a lot of information!

Have a great weekend!!

Won By One!

6 Years, 18 Weeks.

Yesterday was the kickoff to the 2016 season, and it couldn't have been a better game:  a rematch of the Super Bowl from February, Carolina playing us in Denver.  A little different without Manning at the helm; our starting quarterback was our third string last year and had only one snap under his belt before last night, and even that was for a kneel-down.  After the Osweiller debacle during free-season, we've watched yet another quarterback drama unfold, from bringing in Mark Sanchez as our potential starter, to drafting first rounder Paxton Lynch, to letting Sanchez go (he was immediately picked up by Dallas who had lost Romo in pre-season) once it was established that third stringer Trevor Siemian had won the job.

Our new leader, #13.

It was a great game.  After a shaky start and a couple of unforced turnovers, he settled into the pocket and delivered some good strikes, and gave our offense a good chance to make up the 10 point deficit at halftime, to finally take over and keep the lead for good in the 4th quarter.  Our running game was on fire, and it looked like a much more cohesive team than last year.  Our defense was stout, amidst losing some key players in the off-season, and the second half was reminiscent of what they did to Cam Newton in Santa Clara.

Big mistake doing that in our house...

We'll stop hitting you on the helmet when you stop pretending to be Superman!

Hey man, are you okay??  lol

But it was a nail biter for sure, and too close for comfort, as the Panthers came within 9 seconds from winning the game, only to miss the 50 yard field goal wide left!  We won 21-20!!  One point!!  I was going crazy!!

One of our good friends who is a die hard Carolina fan made a bold prediction back in May.
This is the definition of hubris!!

Football season, oh I have missed you!  Here's to another great year!

Here was our week:

Spending some time with Tux.

Grodacks and Bergs came over for supper Friday evening.

With Mommy after church.

Eating supper at Pollo Tropical.  The police behind us just helped a choking victim and performed the Heimlich to save the elderly woman's life.  They called an ambulance afterwards and brought her out on a stretcher but she seemed alert and in good spirits.  Quite the adventure on a Saturday night!

Madelyn eating at her restaurant by Millennia.

We were to meet the Clarkes and Uncle Mike but his luggage was stuck at the airport due to the bad storm so we

hooked up with him the following evening at Uno's Pizza!

Kohl working on his jump shot.

Braelyn came down with a  cold on Tuesday so she didn't go to school.

Enjoying her packed lunch in the living room.

Wednesday Mommy pouring out some Xinxia Red to help our immune systems ward off any sickness from Brae.

Feeling the same on Wednesday, she stayed home another day.

Lolo and Lala came to spend the evening Thursday night, as Lala's flight to Seattle was early Friday morning.  She and Auntie Mary are flying to the Philippines to help take care of Grandma Fernandez,
who isn't doing well.

One last massage before bedtime!

She'll be gone for a couple months!  We'll miss you Lala!

The twins ran into an old friend at Home Depot...

Received a notification from our HOA stating we had to keep the basketball hoop out of
sight when not in use.  Sometimes HOA's can be a pain in the you know what.

  • Driving home from school, stopped at a red light on Edgewater, Maddy notices a few high school boys running on the sidewalk with no shirts on:
          Maddy:  "Look at those boys!"
Me:  "You're not supposed to be looking at boys.  You're too young."
          Kohl:  "But I can!"

          Oye.

Her Mine

6 Years, 17 Weeks.

It had been a whole 11 years since a hurricane made landfall in Florida.

11 years!

And we remember that year too, because it was brutal.  3 major hurricanes criss-crossed the state and left devastation in their wake.  I remember our home then in Apopka survived without sustaining any damages besides some small branches that poked holes on the top of our screened-in porch.  Others were not so fortunate.  Nevertheless, Florida had a good run with seeing a good stretch of time without a hurricane coming close.

Until this week.

Hermine.

Only a Category 1, she brought in a lot of wind and rain, even threats of tornados as the system made landfall at the bend of the panhandle early Friday morning.  Again, we just had a lot of precipitation and windy conditions, the only effect being the headache of heavy traffic on Friday morning due to accidents because of the weather conditions.  But other than that, just fine.  The system continues to move up the entire Eastern seaboard, and will most likely put a damper on a lot of people's Labor Day holiday weekend.

Received this weather alert on the phone.  Things just got serious!

Storm cell passing right by us!

Local meteorologists had a field day Thursday night, here showing the area where they feared tornados could form due to the wind rotations…right over Disney World!

We woke the kids up and brought them into the Fox Den until the all clear was given.

Here was the rest of our week:

Welcoming the weekend with a  quick dip in the pool.

Had the Brodis and Reynolds families from Denver over for brunch Sunday morning.

It was great to host and catch up with them!

The twins jumping over Horsey Bob.  They had taken the red eye and arrived at 9 that morning.

Took them all resort hopping at Disney.

Going from resort to resort using their buses, monorail, and

the boats.  Photo bombing Eric and his daughter Allie.

Capped off the day with supper together at Paradisio 37 in Disney Springs.  What a fun time!

Monday was bring a stuffed animal pet to school day.

Helping Braelyn with her homework.

Mid-week treat to our brand new Dunkin' Donuts!

Maddy chose chocolate frosting with sprinkles.

Strawberry frosting with sprinkles for Brae.

Buddy got powdered chocolate filled!

Mommy helping with Brae's homework.

Swung by the farm to pick up some fresh eggs.

Mommy watching the news about the hurricane and potential tornados.
