Miserable

2 Years, 49 Weeks.

That's how we felt all week.  All of us, with the exception of Tangie, fell victim once again to sickness. And no matter how fast you run away from it, it'll still catch up to you, so why even try?  Braelyn, then the twins, then me.  But on a good note, it hasn't been so bad that we've had to make a run for the doctor's.  I'm hoping a couple more days and it'll all be done with.

It's been pretty miserable.

Nevertheless, here are the highlights:

  • Sabbath we attended church, and actually sat through part of the 3rd service to watch the baby dedication of Karis and Amy's daughter Addison.  The church has started doing group baby dedications rather than individual ones, probably to save time, so it was at least a good 10-15 minute portion of the service.  Their last name starting with the last letter of the alphabet, the Z's were the last ones to be called, which reminded me of the phrase, "Save the best for last!"  After naps we were going to our friends the Drapers for game night over at their place, but Braelyn had started feeling feverish and we didn't want to risk her spreading it around, so we bowed out last minute, and just stayed home catching up on some cleaning and house projects.

  • On Sunday Tangie gave me the day off, and treated me to the final round of Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Invitational.  She had gone the Friday previous with some co-workers and clients, and had a couple of extra tickets for Sunday, so I took Bruce Berghern with me to watch the pros, including Tiger.  We got there after breakfast shortly after 9 and walked around following several players, hanging around the practice area until Tiger showed up, and then got caught up with the thousand or so spectators that followed him and Rickie Fowler as the final pairing.  We knew there was a 40% chance of rain that afternoon, but just before Woods got to the 3rd tee box, they blew the horn and suspended play.  Then there was a mad scramble to get the players into waiting SUV's and back into the clubhouse.  As disappointed as we were that we wouldn't get to see the end of the tournament, we quickly headed back to the car, noticing the dark clouds forming overhead and seeing the weather warnings on the scoreboards.  Luckily we had a parking pass to park right onto the golf course; most of the general public had to park at Universal Studios and get bussed in, which meant having to wait for the busses to bring them back to their cars.  Not 2 minutes after we got in the heavens opened up, and I mean THEY OPENED UP, and with a can of whoop ass.  It was crazy insane!  Incidentally, there was a tornado warning as well, which my phone happened to alert us with, and we saw some of the after affects of the wind with several large trees uprooted on the way home.  The tournament resumed the following day, as the golf course sustained some damage and flooding.

We swung by to see the Grodack's garage sale before heading out to the tournament.

Corey and the girls all set with their baked goods!

Sneaking a shot of Jim Furyk after his tee shot on hole #8.
Cameras were prohibited at the tee boxes and greens, hence the off centered shot!

That's better!  Jim Furyk signing autographs after his round.

Another young and fun golfer, Hunter Mahan.

The tent with the lights was the Golf Channel's commentary booth, overlooking the practice green...

where Tiger in his red and black made 25 practice putts in a row!

Being sexy while waiting for Tiger Woods to play through.

The crowd following Tiger.

Us feeling trapped and claustrophobic within the crowd, inching along.

This kid had the best view!

Some residents held parties in their backyard, all coming out to see Tiger.

The third tee box, waiting for Tiger to arrive, when they blew the horn to suspend play.
Notice the dead tree on the upper left.

Whisking the players into waiting vehicles to get them to safety.

The spectators wondering what to do next, as the clouds in the distance approach.

And then I get this alert!

Making our way back to the car, skies getting darker.

The scoreboard urging everyone to seek safety!

Just as we got inside the car, the clouds ominous overhead!

Meanwhile, back at the grandstands, this is what we would've had to deal with had we not parked on the golf course!  Another spectator's view posted on YouTube:

A large tree on the road.

A couple more, right beside one another.

Remember that dead tree on the 3rd tee?

Damage to an NBC TV tower on the course.

Meanwhile, Tangie took Braelyn and the twins to a joint birthday party for a
couple of classmates at a bowling alley in Casselberry for the afternoon.  The
twins had a good time hanging around and following their sister, and learning
how to roll the ball down the lane.  Hopefully we can continue bringing them
to go bowling as they get bigger.

Waiting their turn to bowl.

Princess Maddy happy to hang out with Mommy for the day!

Kohl felt like he was part of big sister's class!

Enjoying the food and goodies.

  • The rest of the week, as I described, was pretty much blah.  Braelyn had a runny nose and cough on Monday so I kept her home, through Tuesday, which made the twins catch it, myself feeling the scratchy throat symptom Tuesday evening.  Aside from a trip to get some food on Tuesday morning and picking Braelyn up from school Wednesday and Thursday, we didn't leave the house at all!  I guess that's one way to save money!

Wanting to wear a cap like Daddy.

Remembering that "An apple a day keeps the doctor away!"

Watching a movie and eating popcorn inside a fort I made for them in the dining room.

Busted!  Kohlden made a mess of the puzzles so I made him clean it all up by himself, much to his chagrin.
Of course, I eventually helped him, which was his plan all along.

Braelyn 6 year old stats:

 42 lbs (39 last year), 45" tall (41" ly), 40th percentile weight, 50th percentile height.  20/20 vision.

She visited the doctor on Tuesday for her annual check-up.  No shots until she's 11!

20/20 vision.  So far so good!

Accident Sequence of the Week:

Showing me a treasure chest she made out of blocks...

and not 10 seconds later!

Luckily she had two eager helpers ready to help clean up!

Randoms:

Tried out a new necktie knot to church!

Saw this headline on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno!

Bruce brought this umbrella for the golf tournament in case of rain.  Um...

Saw this at Corey's garage sale.  And here I thought she was a die hard Boston fan!

Tangie getting the twins old clothes ready for consignment.

A friend up north posted this on Facebook.  Lucky we have fabulous weather this time of the year!

Another glorious sunset view from the backyard.

Food:

Typical supper for the kids.

Traditional Filipino chicken and rice soup, perfect for when you're sick,
although it still wasn't quite up to par with the way Mom makes it!

Quotes:

  • We were noticing a bunch of birds flying erratically around our backyard, lasting for several days.  They were actually swallows feeding on the numerous flying gnats that were flocking around the area; I guess it's during this certain time of the year.  Anyway, when I pointed out the birds to Braelyn, she retorted:  "Those aren't birds, those are flies.  But they look stylish."

  • While in the waiting room for her doctor's appointment, Braelyn quipped, "Ugh...waiting is so full of boring!"

  • On our way home from picking Brae up from school, we were driving by the First Baptist Church on Colonial and Good Homes Road when Braelyn noticed the big cross on their property:
Braelyn:  [pointing]  "Hey, there's the cross where Jesus died!"
Kohden:  [copying his sister]  "Yeah, there's the cross where Jesus dived!"

  • We continue with potty training for the twins, giving encouragement and celebrating as needed:
Maddy:  [on the pot]  "Daddy!  I went poo-poo!"
Me:  [excited] "Oh, good job Maddy!  I'm so happy!" [big smile on my face]
Maddy:  [smiling too]  "Poo-poo makes you happy?"

Ah...err...um, yes, I guess it does...?

Having dinner outside, I made them eat apart so as to not bug each other!

Have a great week!
